About Us

Burton’s for Shoes is a family-owned business that was established in 1940 by Bert Gladstone. In the beginning of 2003, Mr. Gladstone approached Daniel Côté to buy his store, after telling him for years at their regular coffee get togethers that he was the only person he would want to own Burton’s after him.

Daniel, together with his wife Audrey and their two young daughters Ariel and Joelle, took over in March 2003. Audrey managed the store and during school holidays, their daughters would join her at the store. At eight years old, Ariel made her first sale and the staff were amazed at her customer service skills at such a young age. Her younger sister Joelle was all the more eager to do just as well!

The family of four worked together at the annual 2nd Avenue Sidewalk Sale as well as attended buying shoes twice a year. The girls grew up to love fashion and be great advocates for small businesses. Ariel still continues to assist with the social media aspect of the business and any support needed.

As a business, we value customer service, high-quality merchandise, and a strong work ethic.
